Iran: Will continue nuclear program even if not able to sell one drop of oil

Commodityonline.com -- Iran has once again issued a strong statement justifying its right to develop nuclear technology while also asking the European Union (EU) to rethink its decision to ban oil imports from Iran starting July 01, 2012.
"We will not abandon our just nuclear course, even if we cannot sell one drop of oil”.Iran's oil minister Rostam Qasemi was quoted by the IRNA news agency.
The oil minister also asked the EU to reconsider its decision to ban oil imports from Iran. "Unfortunately the EU has succumbed to America's pressure. I hope they would review their decision on sanctioning Iran's oil exports. The international crude market will experience turmoil in the absence of Iranian oil with unforeseen consequences on oil prices”, he said.

Posturing. If Iran indeed is trying to develop nuclear weapons, it is a response to Israel having nuclear weapons and being an active threat. North Korea has played their possession of a Nuclear weapon as a means to prevent invasion, Iran probably hopes for the same. The original purpose of the Atoms for Peace program was to proliferate nuclear power, and the nonproliferation treaty to prevent weaponization. Considering the failure of nuclear power to develop into safe technology, irrespective of the weaponization threat, means any serious examination should rethink the original purpose of both the program and treaty. Nuclear power is not safe, weapons certainly are not, and perhaps the best course is to admit that whole field has failed, and work for the elimination of all nuclear power and weapons.

Since they are not willing to let anyone in their country to prove that the program is not weapon related, it is safe to assume that the nuclear program IS weapon related. Therefore, why would they stop now. When they do build a bomb and test it, the whole world will then say "ah-ha, told you so!" and boast that we were correct... but it will then be too late.
